Military Ridge State Trail

I love this bike trail from Madison to blue mounds. West of that, it's not quite as pretty. Wisconsin's bike trails are a real treasure and this is one of the gems.

Nice trail with some hilliness particularly between Riley and Mt. Horeb. Could be maintained a bit better. Some people walking trail are careless with dogs off leashes etc. so be wary of that. Otherwise very pleasant.

Mostly level with some gentle grade. Scenic. Patches of deeper gravel in some places. Overall good trail

This is my favorite trail in the Madison area. It is really well maintained by the Friends of Military Ridge and other groups. There is a great variety of scenery and ecosystems from farmland to forests and wetlands and creeks. If you can make it, Mt. Horeb offers a great selection of food and drink on the trail.

This amazing trail links together communities. The wooded treescape makes you feel like you are miles away from civilization, despite the homes that sometimes flank the trails. The path is wide and well groomed. Be aware that the trip West is a subtle incline that can make your bike ride or run quite challenging.
