Breakfast at mckies dairy bar and a walk to this park to work it off is a perfect morning. Mature oak trees with little sections of prairie grass cover this park. It is surrounded by beautiful homes. It contains an 80 foot native American effigy mound, so glad this little slice of Wisconsin was saved within city limits!
It's a little grassy area with trees.
There's not much to this little hill in the middle of the Vilas neighborhood! It's great for picnicking and watching the moon through the trees on a first date.. and then worth coming back to later for a marriage proposal... ah, yes. Proposal-worthy, this little mound is! :)
(But actually, it's more of a little grassy hill than it is a park..)
Full disclosure...I grew up here. Quiet, shady round park with an effigy mound on the west side.. Visited recently on holiday, saw they are leaving tracts of unmowed grass. Could they be bringing back prairie here? Note, unlike other similar effigy mounds in the Madison area, this one is mowed.
I grew up in this neighborhood. Went to Longfellow Elementary. We played capture the flag and kissed girls on the mound. I think I smoked my first joint there. Many wonderful memories. Check it out. I highly recommend it. Definitely an interesting place to check out here in Madison.
