I dont have enough words to describe how pleased I am with their services. You exceeded my expectations in every way. Fred is a gentleman, very courteous, always smiling, and the most important thing... truly honest and transparent, which is hard to find on these days. I can absolutely recommend Fred and this store for anyone how is looking to repair a TV. He will tell you if is repairable, or if it's worth to repair. Thank you one more time Fred for your amazing service and hospitality when I was there. You're a great person and professional. I wish for you all the best!

Sadly a dying art form. Great business and they do an amazing job.

Sorry about the length of this posting, but I'd rather include too many details than not enough.

Where electronics are concerned, I am "old school". Doesn't matter if it is a stereo or radio, all my stuff is from the late 1960's or early 1970's. No one seems to listen to radio anymore, but I have only Sony radios. 4 of them.: CRF-150 AM/FM/MW/shortwave; ICF9650W AM/FM table radio; TFM-6000 AM/FM/Shortwave, and a TFM-7400 AM/FM radio.

I have had these radios anywhere from 44-50 years, depending upon the model. Well.....I needed some repair to the ICF9650W. After 44 years, the dial light finally blew out. I enjoyed its soft green glow over the years. Switches and contacts also needed cleaning. The CRF-150 had a similar problem, as I had dial lights on one side, but not the other, and its switches and contacts needed cleaning too.

Because these are considered "vintage" radios, not just anyone will, can, or should repair them. As it turns out, there are precious few electronics shops doing repairs anymore because today's electronics are nothing fancy and meant to be thrown out and replaced if they need repair. I looked up as many electronic repair places as I could find, scattered across the country. Many never bothered to respond back, suggesting to me they weren't interested in my projects, or, were just plain out of business.

Solid State TV at 7117 W. Greenfield Avenue in West Allis was one place I contacted via e-mail. They responded and indicated they could fix my radios. So, I lugged them into their storefront on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018. Not the fanciest store on Greenfield Avenue, but one that clearly showed work went on there. Electronics were all over the place in various states of repair. I provided them with service manuals for both radios to make their job easier. I was charged a $30 diagnostic fee (plus tax) for each radio and that fee would be applied to any subsequent repair, which I thought was more than fair. The completely mind-blowing part was my getting a call from the guy (I think his name is Fred ?) today (Wed. Jan. 31, 2018) telling me the repairs were completed and I could pick them up today as well. So, I did.

The CRF-150 didn't need any dial lights replaced. Seems there are lights that light up the shortwave band and there are 2 lights on the right side of the radio shining onto the dial. There was a faint light on the left side, as that bulb may also serve another function. The only issue I had with the ICF-9650W table radio is rather than having a green dial (I guess the bulb that blew out was green initially ?), the dial is darker black and the light is the usual yellow-white type, which actually makes the dial much easier to read at night. Neither radio pops or hisses when I turn it on anymore.

I was stunned at the incredibly fast turnaround time in repairing these radios, and my total cost for both was $117 and change. Radios like these just aren't made anymore and to me, they are irreplaceable. Finding someone willing and able to fix something this old was finding the needle in the haystack. If or when any of my other electronic gear goes on the fritz, I'll be taking it to Solid State TV, providing they're still in the business at that time.
