Pewit's Nest

Great stop - waterfalls and a nice stream too - close to town - no cost and free to park - nice walking path and not a long distance. The leaves were changing in the middle of October and it was beautiful! Definitely worth a visit in fall!

A spectacular gorge near devils lake, that’s a quick hike but worth stop! New fencing has blocked off a lot of the trail along the top of the gorge, BUT to get the best view you can still wade/swim up stream to see small waterfall and rock walls!

Pewit's Nest State Natural Area is a nature reserve of Wisconsin, USA, that includes a deep gorge formed during the retreat of the last glacier. Pewit's Nest is outside of Baraboo is a short walk with a beautiful surroundings definitely worth visiting if you are in the area. I give it a 5 star.

This is a lovely park; however, it is small, especially if you obey the restricted path signs. Ignoring those signs, you can get in about a 1.25-mile hike. The paths are only well maintained on the primary-way but there are some additional less maintained ones that have an interesting perspective. If you are driving from Madison, chain this with some other park such as Natural Bridge State Park to make it worthwhile.

Short and nice hike. The parking is very limited for around 15 cars at most. We went there early in the morning, so parking was not an issue. Most of the area is fenced off because people cannot enjoy the beauty of nature without destroying it. There were lot of teenagers having fun jumping from top of cliff into the water 25 foot below. We spent around an hour here, our kids had lot of fun, as usual, playing in the water.
