“One look at any Dollar General store could cause someone to wonder how I could award them four stars. Then, after you realize that the prices essentially amount to a scam when you account for the reduce package sizes made for the sole purpose of deceiving the customer, my favorable rating looks even more absurd. But consider the following: *The understaffed employees are facing a constant uphill battle to keep the place in any type of order and work the register at the same time. Most Americans would throw up their hands on day one. But somehow THE EMPLOYEES ARE 100% AWESOME (90% of the time ;) *You don't see any advertising and company leadership makes no bones about what it takes to exist in the markets they serve. There's no room for extra staff, fancy displays, and expensive commercials. But, year after year this company grows and profits. *They serve areas that everyone else neglects. Say what you will about Dollar General but they are part of the communities they serve. That's more than you can say for almost every other retailer. All the other retailers that are dropping like flies in Amazon's wake. Many think Amazon is slowly (quickly?) monopolizing the retail industry. Dollar General is content with letting everyone else fight over the shrinking middle class. *FIVE STARS TO DOLLAR GENERAL for realizing that the wealth inequality gap is growing larger by the day and, as a result, so is their customer base. Wait...I take it back....FOUR STARS BECAUSE THE STORES REALLY ARE A MESS. I'll happily make it five stars if they show any effort to improve employee compensation and make their pricing even a little more reasonable before a competitor inevitably comes in to force their hand.”
