“I am writing to convey my gratitude on my recent experience with Tarpon Springs Police Department. I called in from Dubai, UAE to do a welfare check on a friend who is a US citizen. We had not heard from him for more than a month and since he was not responding to any phone calls, his family and friends were obviously worried about his wellbeing. We had limited information on his whereabouts and did not even have a proper address where he lived. The officers on duty were extremely helpful and handled our call and concern promptly. Firstly based on the limited information we had, the officers were able to immediately find his location and gave us a full address as well. My call was transferred to the dispatch team and again the officers that took the call handled our concern very professionally and promptly. They briefed me clearly on the course of action and in less than an hour they established contact with my friend at his residence. They requested me to call back for an update. On my follow-up call which was two hours later, I was given an update that my friend is fine and he would get in touch with me. The next day I got an email from my friend. This brought comfort to his Mother in India and the rest of his family. Not only have I shared this experience with his family but also with friends telling them of the efficiency and professionalism of the Tarpon Springs Police Department. While I could not get the names of the officers involved, am sure you have the records and would like to convey my sincere gratitude to each one of the officers. “If you have a license to carry a firearm which is good for five years, you receive a reminder to renew a few months before your birthday. Once you submit your renewal application you wait for a call to come in to get a new photograph and to sign a form. Then you wait again. But evidently the application is sent to the State Police Headquarters for them to make the final decision. If you are still waiting when the expiration date comes and still haven't received the new card, don't worry. There is still a ninety day grace period. Hang on to your expired license to carry firearm card! I had called to see if I should bring my weapon in to the police to hold for me rather than have an expired Firearm License. It took a while and for someone to know about the ninety day grace period! There should be a more efficient method that shouldn't take over three months to do.”
