“According to this book I got from the library, this was once and Indian Burial ground. Local gravedigger had to "relocate" remains to make room for new clients. I agree with the notion that the US using eminent domain to seize this property is the most "haunting" thing about it. Same with Egypt Mound in Walton Hills.”

“Greenwood Cemetery is unique with the older historic area which began in the 1800’s, complete with ancient cedar trees overhead, then opening out into the newer part of the cemetery complete with personal touches like benches and newer plantings. “This week I had the need for an emergency boarding of a family member's 2 large dogs. Two days before a holiday weekend, Kat(owner), took my call, said she could help and guided me through what I needed to do to get them prepared and into the facility. When I arrived this morning to a bustling lobby, Kat and her staff calmly assisted me and their regular clients get checked in swiftly and accurately. Recently, I have personally experienced and have heard other's woes about a lack of customer service with various businesses as everyone is short staffed and struggling these days; so when I experienced a company that was so willing to go out of their way and out of normal process to assist me in a time of need I wanted to make sure that I shared my experience. Oh and the facility is clean, and lovely I will sing their praises and return myself in the future. “This serene and stately cemetery is sited near the edge of urban activity south of downtown Portland, Oregon in 1882. The cemetery is the final resting place of many of Portland's early leaders, including Simon Benson, George Abernethy, Abigail Scott Duniway, Henry Weinhard, Albertina Kerr, and even Virgil Earp, US Marshal in Tombstone, Arizona, Union soldier, and farmer. The forested and landscaped 360 acres offer a true oasis from the bustle of urban life and its location near the Willamette River provides a wonderful vantage of Mount Hood and Cascade Mountains. I found that the staff at the cemetery were very knowledgeable, professional and friendly, and gave me map copies to find some of my descendants and a few of the local "celebrities".”
