“If you're looking for a place where you don't get lost in the crowd, where the services are amazing, the Rabbi and Cantorial Soloist are warm and caring people, and so are the members of Temple Kol Ami, this is the place to join. The religious school is great, and there are wonder things planned for young children, as well as the older children, and adults. Friday October 12, 2018 is Shabbat Live, and the band will be adding to the Friday night service. Come and join us!”

“Instantly felt welcome and comfortable at B'nai Aviv. The congregation is definitely a family atmosphere that makes you want to come back as often as possible. The Rabbi and Cantor are amazing and services are a joy. The Rabbi is young and gives relevant context to today's world in every sermon and service.”

“I usually do not write reviews for shuls, but I decided to try something different. This orthodox shul is in the Westgate area of the Lakewood community. It is not limited to just Westgate, but the shul attracts a big crowd of people. They have the space to accommodate many people throughout the day. The have shachris minyanim until 9 am. They have mariv minyanim upstairs every twenty minutes until 12 am. There are plenty of mincha minyanim, but make sure to check a schedule first. This shul is not a minyan factory, but they have many daily (and shabbos) minyanim. The parking situation is not the greatest, but you can usually find a spot in the back(unless there is a simcha going on). The shul is beautiful and well maintained. They have a gorgeous otzar full of many seforim. The simcha hall is spacious and comfortable. This shul is a great place to daven and learn.”

“My own experiences!!! Well let me tell you on September 29, 1951 I was bar mitzvah boy that day; the synagogue on Union Turnpike had been recently completed; you see I went to Hebrew School around the corner on Kent Street and I remember walking from my home on Tudor Road with my family to the new synagogue on Union Turnpike. Rabbi Moshowitz was my Rabbi. My cousin recently mailed me the prayer book that I was given at the ceremony and lo and behold.... there is a label on the inside that says the was a gift from Junior Congregation. What a memory September 29, 1951.......69 years ago. I am blessed that I have lived this long . And do you know what...it has been quite the journey What a hoot!!!”

“Where to start? SFJA has made a world of difference in my family's life. My daughter has learning disabilities as well as autism, so she faces many challenges. When my daughter started at the school in the 8th grade, she barely spoke to anyone, and especially not to adults outside of our family. She mostly looked at the ground rather than at the people she was speaking with. Her self-esteem was very low, and she was almost pathologically shy. The loving and committed staff at SFJA welcomed her and immediately treated her as a person who is capable of great accomplishments. Their standards are very high, and at the same time they celebrate even small steps in growth. They spend a tremendous amount of time studying each student to determine the best way to reach and teach them. Many schools give lip service to differentiating instruction for each student. SFJA actually does it. Three years later, my daughter is a different person. She holds her head up. She speaks with everyone at school, and has developed a sassy, positive attitude. She loves the staff, and regularly goes to speak with the principal about issues she is struggling with. She has learned to tackle difficult projects, and to have more confidence in herself. Yesterday she even completed an application for a job at a local store! She has made great strides academically as well. Due to her developmental delay, she lagged behind grade level in most subjects. By the beginning of her second year at SFJA, she reached grade level in language-based academics. And by the end of this year, she was moving up in mathematics as well - not quite on grade level, but getting close!”

“I recently had the pleasure of visiting Chabad of Bakersfield and I cannot recommend it highly enough. The rabbi and his family are truly exceptional people - kind, energetic, and always willing to go above and beyond to make visitors feel welcome. The synagogue itself is a beautiful and peaceful space, perfect for quiet contemplation and prayer. But the real highlight for me was the holocaust memorial - it is an absolute must-see. The display of six million buttons is incredibly moving, and a powerful reminder of the atrocities of the past. Overall, I cannot speak highly enough of Chabad of Bakersfield. Whether you are a regular attendee of synagogue or simply interested in learning more about Jewish history and culture, this is an absolutely fantastic place to visit. Highly recommended!”
