“It's been a while since I last visited the Pepper Place, but it's amazing to see the gorgeous architectural pieces they get in for the home and garden! You can also make an appointment with one of the wonderful designers to help guide you with making your dream design a reality! Weekends, during the spring/summer months, are a great way to see what, "buying locally", is all about in the South! Farmers and other vendors come from all over Alabama and other states, to offer fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers and more!”

“The botanical gardens have changed dramatically since my last visit 30 years ago. Today, the gardens are breathtaking...filled with beautiful plantings and landscaping. I really enjoyed exploring every nook of the grounds, including the tea maze, herb garden, and chicken coop. I look forward to visiting again!”

“Beautiful, well kept gardens. Lots of walking trails. Plants are well identified and kept. Staff is very friendly. Butterfly House is beautiful with many varieties of butterflies you can observe up close. If you sit still, you may be lucky enough to have one land on you. The Children's Garden is amazing! There are facilities are well placed throughout the Garden so you are never far from water or restrooms. Lots of shady spots to hang out on hot sunny days.”

“Really interesting place. The story behind the home and gardens is story book. I thought the architecture was more impressive then the garden but the whole thing is worth the trip to this tucked away oasis. I noticed some folks looking to see certain types of flowers and they have a guide to when certain plants are in bloom. It was raining the day we were there but there were plenty of spots to hide until the rain past. Expect to spend a couple of hours wandering the grounds. They have audio tour you can access from your phone which tells a pretty good story. It’s an easy walk but they’re are some stairs in the house and steps in the garden some folks might be mindful of.”

“Beautiful place to visit, with family or solo like I did! So many walking paths and amazing flowers and plants and much more!! There is even a kids playground area, it was $5 admission for adults and children age 15 and under are free. I will definitely be going back when I come to visit again. Very peaceful if you're looking for some relaxing time for yourself.”

“Lovely gardens, even on a cloudy day. Had a peaceful walk around the 5 acre lake and enjoyed exploring the flora, fauna, and art twined throughout the grounds’ other trails. One trail is a storybook walk for kids that features an area for gnomes and their homes. Butterflies, ducks, fish, and honeybees were spotted. Well-placed seating throughout the grounds. The building in the center of the gardens, Aldridge House, showcases artwork (most of which is for sale) from various artists throughout the year and displays historical documents of the gardens’ beginnings. There is a gift shop as well. Very kind staff members. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to this free public garden - a Hoover gem.”

“Recent infrastructure improvements are making a big difference. New entrance signage and new chairs and seating in the pavilion are a great upgrade. Trails need better signage and could be linked to longer walls they the old golf course. Beautiful Magnolias”

“The Arboretum has many signs with QR codes that lets you listen to different bird calls that are native to Alabama. You'll find a variety of flora from northern Alabama to the gulf coast. Very scenery place to unwind and learn about the Alabama water sheds and how human actions can affect the environment.”

“We went on a weekday and were able to get in rather quickly with a low crowd. Several exhibits were under refurbishment when we went. Some of the exhibits were really nice but it was rather hot so the admirals were mostly hiding in the shade. We rode the train which was nice on a hot day but it costs extra. The sky liner was not running that day. We had lunch at the cafe The food was standard fast food with hamburgers and chicken strips. There is a large seating area outdoors. It is a small zoo but fun to take small kids for animal encounters.”
Address: 1664 Venable Rd, Hope Hull, AL 36043, USA
“Amazing!!! The price at $22.95 per adult is comparable to other zoos and well worth it! Come in the morning when it's less busy. We bought the feed, romaine cup and budgie sticks. They give you a great guidebook to identify the animals. The petting zoo was nice and laid out very well. Excellent experience! Would absolutely come back.”

“Great place to take a walk or to take pictures. Absolutely Beautiful. Loved the playground for kids only thing is maybe during the summer, they should put a canopy over the playground so the equipment won't be so hot.”

“First visit to this park. The staff was very helpful. The facility was nice and loaded with all kinds of information and artifacts. I did not spend a lot of time inside. I walked the trail which was well maintained, easy to moderate, and had benches along the way. There were spots for more learning of the battle with a cell phone in hand you could listen to more history. The trail takes you around the battlefield and you will have a chance to walk along the river. If you do not want to walk, you can drive through and stop at each information site. I enjoyed the walk and saw some beautiful scenery.”

“I think we were there at an unpopular time, because we seemed to have the whole place practically to ourselves - and it was AWESOME! None of us had ever been there before, and we enjoyed every bit of it. The staff was delightful, and it was obvious that they all loved working there. The caverns were beautiful, but what really made it fun was the tour guides. They were funny and informative, and the history of the place is really cool. And then there were all the activities! So much fun. You know it's a good day when the kids are too tired to walk back to the car. A few pro-tips - don't do the foam pit until last, because you'll get totally soaked. Wear sturdy walking shoes in the cavern. Bring some extra cash for the gift shop, because it's awesome! Wear glasses or goggles in the cannon shooting gallery! Plan to do EVERYTHING!”

“Our family and church had so much fun! They were so accommodating! They made sure we were able to get in quickly and there were about 40+ in our group! We were able to easily pre-register 3 cabanas and they allow grills and things to be brought in and used in the picnic area! This is our second time bringing the church here and we will be back! Everyone loves it from the babies all the way up to the seasoned saints! The cabanas are large and have table, chairs, and lounge chairs and a fan and nice shade! There are slides, a wave pool, a baby area and more! You can rent tubes or go without. There are lockers and the locker rooms are nice size with showers, bathrooms, and changing rooms and vanities. There are concession stands as well!”

“Had a great off season stay here. Sites are close together and there are a LOT of sites. Empty all around our water front site mid-week late fall. Restrooms very clean and well maintained. Picnic tables weathered, glad we brought a tablecloth. Water very low. We were able to launch our kayaks from near our site. Great part of Lake Martin for paddling as narrower with coves.”

“I’ve taken my family twice and always have a blast. The guides were extremely patient and helpful with us to ensure safety and helping us land several birds. You can’t beat the price. I thoroughly enjoyed the hunt and watching the dogs work. Stick Lake and their people make it a place I will definitely visit a cpl time a year”

“Big beautiful lake with wonderful views! There is a small swimming hole area (not the cleanest but regardless a swimming area), a big playground area, bathrooms (again not the cleanest, I definitely recommend using another area’s), fishing dock, and a hiking trail that wraps around a side of the lake! There are a few picnic tables here as well.”
