Alaska Performance RV & Marine (the local Bigfoot Dealer) has done the winterization/de-winterization and performed other various annual systems checks and minor repairs on our 2003 Lil Bigfoot trailer which we purchased in 2020. In June 2021, the original Atwood hot water heater tank developed leaks and needed to be replaced. No Atwood replacement could be found in either Alaska or the Lower 48. Dometic, the company that purchased Atwood a few years ago, makes a replacement hot water heater which was was supposed to work for a Bigfoot trailer. In June 2021, a Dometic replacement was installed at Alaska Performance RV. During the 2021 camping season we tried to use the replacement on several occasions but noticed that the outer fiberglass shell above the exhaust outlet was being damaged by extreme heat. The fiberglass was warping and turning brown. On one occasion, while using the replacement Dometic, the CO2 alarm inside the trailer located near the floor sounded and we had to evacuate. We stopped using the Dometic and camped without hot water the remainder of the season. I took pictures of the fiberglass damage, and contacted Tim Anderson, the owner of Alaska Performance RV. We agreed that the problem would be dealt with at the end of the camping season. In September 2021, we took the trailer to be winterized and Tim said he would contact Dometic techs in the Lower 48 to try to get some answers/suggestions on the repair while the trailer was in winter storage. In May 2022, after de-winterizing the trailer, the replacement Dometic hot water heater was still burning too hot. Tim’s tech suggested modifying the trailer by building out the sides of the fiberglass opening several inches so the heat would be redirected and vent further away from the fiberglass. Unfortunately, that modification did not work. Tim then suggested that the Dometic unit installed in June 2021 was defective and the company should replace it. However, Dometic insisted that the defective unit be returned to the factory before Dometic would provide a replacement, all of which took several weeks. When the new Dometic unit finally arrived and was later installed, the second unit also burned too hot and was back drafting causing Tim to recommend removal. In an effort to try everything reasonably possible to provide a safe and usable product, we discussed installing a Suburban brand replacement which Tim currently had in stock. The Suburban was installed and we picked up the trailer after the July 4th week and immediately traveled to the Kenai Peninsula for camping for the remainder of the 2022 season. The season is now over and the trailer is back in Anchorage. We are very pleased to report that the Suburban hot water heater worked perfectly without burning the fiberglass or back drafting. The solution was made possible due entirely to the persistent efforts of Tim Anderson and his tech. Dometic did not pay/reimburse Alaska Performance RV for any of the time and materials expended in modifying the opening and attempting to get the two Dometic replacement heaters to properly and safely work. On the other hand, Alaska Performance RV expended about $2000 worth of their time and materials into solving the problem, including absorbing the cost of the Suburban heater. For all of their efforts and materials, Tim charged us nothing. Even when Dometic refused to compensate his company, he remained focused on making sure that we, his customers, were taken care of and satisfied with the end result. Tim, thank you for all your efforts, your excellent customer service and especially, your willingness to stand behind a product that you initially sold and installed but which never properly performed due to no fault of Alaska Performance RV. It was great to have hot water at the flip of a switch once again!!! Maurice and Paul

We took our RV to Alaska Performance RV-Marine and asked Tim for a very robust solar system and boy did we get what we asked for and more. The system they installed far exceeds our expectations. We definitely got our moneys worth along with professional and skilled service. I highly recommend Alaska Performance RV-Marine. Tim and his staff are the bomb!!!!!!

UPDATE: Now that we have had a bit more experience in the RV, I wanted to add that we have lived in the RV for a week now and still have not had to hook up to power or run the generator. We have also been running heat most the night. This solar system is a beast and has kept up with everything we have thrown at it so far. The cell booster has been great as well. We have had no issues staying connected to the internet via cellular service. It all manages itself as well so super simple to keep up with. AWESOME JOB!!!! AND GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

Tim and team did a terrific job installing solar panels, controller, DC-DC charger and monitor. Solid advice when I was spec'ing out the system and an accurate and timely bid started things out. They solved problems that we hadn't anticipated on the initial walk-through, including surgery on the under-step battery bay to accommodate bigger-than-expected batteries and replacement of stock converter that didn't support lithium batteries, with excellent communication from start to finish. They may not be the cheapest in town, but their work is first-rate.
