Tonto National Forest is located in East Central Arizona, very close to Phoenix. It has a very wide variety of Flora and fauna due to extreme altitude changes. You have Sonoran desert with beautiful saguaro cactus centuries which blossom in May. You also have high Alpine forest with Aspen changing gold in October. I really enjoyed swimming in the salt River near the salt River diversion dam in Tonto National Forest. If the weather does not suit you you can always drive to a different altitude where it is much warmer or much colder.
Definitely a unique and mysterious place just be sure to choose a guide or to check in with the ranger station for information and study guides and tips or warnings about the areas you plan to explore for there is much more out in the thick of the woods going bump in the Natural world untouched by man than people realize always be aware of natural disasters and resources every tourist should be strongly aware of and your family will have an educated time of your Life!!! ENJOY Be safe 🙂 AMEN
One of my most favorite places to explore! Winter is best though. I recommend getting a good trail map, and be prepared for with the right gear and plenty of water.
Pretty view, short drive from the Valley. Lots to do and fun sites to visit while you visit. We love day hikes in the area and lunch at at the local restaurants. Great place to take the out-of-town guests that think Arizona is nothing but desert.
The Rim is epic, always epic.
