To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to do well at BASIS. The curriculum is very subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the content will go over a typical student's head. There's also BASIS's rigorous outlook, which is deftly woven into its structure - its personal philosophy draw heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The students understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of the courses, to realize that they're not just interesting - they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Basis truly ARE idiots - of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the subtly in BASIS's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as BASIS Corporate's genius unfolds itself in the classroom. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a BASIS Peoria tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only - And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own(preferably lower) beforehand.
I have never been more impressed with a school in my entire life. This is my fourth year here and I am going strong. My tip for people investigating the school: don’t take this the wrong way, but Basis is not concerned with how gifted your child is. If you are focused and ready to learn, you are a perfect applicant. Our brand new school is spectacular! Be ready for a HUGE challenge, but I hope to see you next year!
Our children attend here and it works well for us. It's not a school for gifted students, it's a school for students to learn how to study. It's a school with high academic rigor.
We have a 5th and a 8th grader at Basis Peoria, and they both love it. My children are doing really well in academics and are involved in several after school activities. All the teachers and faculty are highly qualified and are doing an amazing job!
If you are looking for a school that will challenge your children with the best academics in AZ, then this is the place. The teachers and staff teach with passion in each subject. They start you kids off in the 5th Grade learning Latin, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Classics and so much more. The staff there is awesome. My only complaint is that the schedule is a but disorganized and teachers are often teaching is different classrooms and times depending on the day of the week.
