Ak-Chin Regional Airport

What a pleasant experience. We met the airport manager, Tim. Well worth our stop. Big clean restrooms and free (tips appreciated) soft drinks and water. We even got to watch hang glides hanging around in the air for what seemed like hours.

Great place to refuel at a very competitive price. Easy access to self service pumps. The equipment is modern and well cared for. Good visibility helps you to maintain situational awareness while landing and taking off.

Ak-Chin is kind of a quiet airport, not many planes hangared there but there is fuel, repair facility, training and rental. It's a bit tough to see from the air, kind of blends in since not many buildings at the airport. Heavy student training from the various large scale flight schools in the area. When there is wind, 22 has an odd rise followed by a drop on short final. Can catch you off guard.

Narrow runway provides a interesting challenge to new pilots. Caution regarding light experimental aircraft flying low around final without ADS-B or Radios. The office is nice and clean when it's open.

Easy in and out airport for economical fueling at mid field pump. They even have a wide rollable step for fueling high wings. Much safer than a ladder. Attentive airport staff. Heads on a swivel for traffic. No food services at airport.
