They have good facilities and a friendly staff. The martial arts training is great, especially since it’s a small gym. Highly recommended!
This review is primarily in regards to the fight training that LAF has to offer. I have participated in a variety of martial arts throughout my life and I finally realized that the typical no contact or light contact martial arts did nothing to prepare a person for an actual fight whether it be a competitive fight or a street fight that can’t be avoided.
When I initially spoke to Zach (the owner) about my goals he understood my concerns and assured me that the training would successfully take me down the road of full contact fighting as far as I desired to go. Because I had so little experience I started out with one-on-one training with Zach and eventually worked in some group lessons.
I believe the Muay Thai training to be very practical from the stand point of street self-defense. Zach is patient and moves the trainee along in a challenging but not intimidating way. The group lessons are particularly useful in that the students are not there to see who can do the most damage to their fellow students. The group lesson is very much about control, respect and figuring out how to use techniques when some is coming at you with punches and kicks. Although if you want to go hard and heavy that can be accommodated. At 60 years old, I’m not so much interested in heavy full contact so I keep it toned down and my fellow trainees respect that and moderate how hard they punch and kick when we spar.
If a person is more interested in grappling or MMA style fighting then those disciplines are also taught at the gym. I briefly tried grappling but found the wear and tear on my joints was more than I cared for, but again, the other students are super respectful and everyone helps each other.
I highly recommend this gym for Muay Thai, grappling and MMA style fight training.
The gym portion is decent and very seldom crowded. If you want to move some weight around then the weight room can definitely get you a good workout. Thankfully there is a lack of those who like to show up at a gym to do more talking than lifting. The ones lifting are generally the more committed, long term gym rats.
My favorite gym in Auburn and probably all of placer county.
Love the atmosphere and look of the gym. It's not for everyone, but that's just fine by me. I want a place where I can work hard and reach my goals. Not take selfies on a treadmill.
Great classes, especially the Jiu-Jitsu.
They have a ton of other things for sale which is really great like food, supplements, drinks, and misc products in case you need something.
The owner is a great person that really cares for his members. If you get training from him, get ready, its no cake walk.
Iv'e had an amazing positive experience at Life Altering Fitness! The staff answered all my questions about the various gym memberships, and Zach gave advice on my diet and workout routines, as well as the supplements that they supply in their Nutrishop! They made me feel very comfortable and welcomed to the gym!
GYM JEM!!! The staff is friendly and helpful and give you as much personal space as needed, the clients are polite and considerate too... Recouping my health, I am currently receiving personal training, one on one with the best right at my side. With health problems, having a personal trainer that is not only inspirational but kind and patient has made me comfortable in a gym for the first time in my life!
The fact that I & others communicate directly with the owner and he communicates back via a text ASAP is super helpful for scheduling!
AWESOME PLACE TO PUT POSITIVE
