Cosumnes River Preserve

Such a beautiful and special place. Migrating birds. California delta beauty. The magic of water. Mirror reflections of sky.

The paved walking path makes it accessible for folks who need paved paths - like my mom who uses a walker.

Note: Please no pets - this is not a park. It's a preserve. Pets must remain in your car.

My wife and our daughter, along with my parents, came here for the day to get out and enjoy the wonderful weather and see which birds of the season we could find. The trail was fantastic, the visitor center was incredible, and everyone was friendly. We will be coming back here for many years to come, and during every season to see how things change!

Beautiful trails to watch the sunrise. We walked 3 miles along the river trail. Saw a couple of deer and lots of birds. Not too crowded on weekdays, just bring comfortable shoes, water, and cover up because there’s lot of mosquitoes/bugs! Easy flat terrain to bring the whole family!

What a nice experience and in my own backyard. Normally I travel up to the Sierra to get a nice bike but I’ve had a couple of recommendations to check this place out and it was great. As others of noted it’s pretty flat hike and on the longer loop it isn’t more than 4 miles but there is quite a bit to see and quite a few areas to explore.

Located just south of Elk Grove, it’s a short drive out here and a nice hike to take the young kids out. From what I understand it’s a really great place to check out in early spring or fall but it was still a good trip even at the end of may and still quite a bit of wild life out. We happen to catch a few deer and quite a few birds. Also it wasn’t very busy at all even on a Memorial Day weekend.

The visitor center was closed on our visit but all the information is available just outside the visitor center and there is ample parking there as well as the lot just north at the observation deck parking. Great short hike for the family!

We stopped by this preserve to get off the highway and walk around. What a pleasant surprise. The boardwalk along the river provides lots of photo ops. We saw many birds, squirrels and rabbits. The wetlands viewing area was just beautiful and we spotted a variety of water birds. The visitors center looked interesting but was closed. Nonetheless they had a nice picnic area next to the visitor center. Pit toilets were the only bathrooms we noticed. Definitely worth stopping here.
