Mill Creek Wetlands

I have driven by this place place many times but the gate is usually locked. Today was the exception. This is a wetlands with several pools that help clean up urban runoff before it released back to Santa Ana River.
There are several displays throughout the area explaining how the plants help to clean the water. The displays also provide information as to how the plants were used by the Native American tribes for shelter, basket weaving and medicinal purposes.
Unfortunately my time here was cut short by the maintenance staff. Although the sign at pedestrian gate says it’s open from 7:30 am - 5 pm, the staff member said the actual closing hour is 3 PM due to budget constraints.
