If open, well worth a visit for helpful information about the park and road conditions.
Full of great information and knowledgeable rangers. Great little stopping point before venturing on to more adventure in the Plains.
BLM staff, especially young woman working this day, were knowledgeable and friendly, even on this last day of seasonal operation of the visitor center. Beautiful public open space with great people taking care of the land and its visitors.
I've been going to the Carrizo Plain for many years.
The Goodwin Center is a nice little stop offering good information
of the surrounding area. Taxidermy examples, as well as maps and other
information is available there.
The (limited) staff is helpful regarding recent wildlife and floral bloom status.
The plain is well known for wonderful floral displays in March and April,
and is also a "go to" place to see migratory raptors in the winter.
A relocated herd of pronghorn ("antelope") has been established,
and may possibly be seen by the keen-eyed viewer.
They had some taxidermy animals, books, historic information, and T-shirts at the center. I went to see the super bloom and was a little to late. The rangers on duty were very nice and informative. I wasn’t able to see the pictographs because I hadn’t made arrangements for a tour. Call ahead or go online to make arrangements. They have restricted schedules. This picture was taken from the Goodwin Center parking area. There are picnic benches and restrooms there.
