Breathtaking!! Did an open water swim on 8/28 and temperature was comfortable! Someone in our party has Raynauds and was concerned about the temperature, they swam with no issues! I would guess the water temp was 73-75 degrees.
Ed Z'berg Sugar Pine Point State Park is a nice smaller state park on the West shore of Lake Tahoe. There is a nature trail, some historic buildings, a beach, and great scenery. Not as busy as some other locations and a great place to spend a few hours or half a day.
The pin location on Google Map is super confusing. Don't rely on the pin location. Treat it as just the parking lot place.
If you're here for hiking, or even the beautiful lake shore, you should go across the road to the side close to the lake. Go down the trail when you see its entrance. You'll enjoy the pines around you like walking in a forest as you approach the lake shore.
Pay attention to the sign and board that has map illustration, use them to navigate your way, not Google Map! Only use Google Map / your phone GPS as supplementary. I would recommend take a photo of the sign/board with the local map.
The best highlight would be the pier that goes into the lake. It's rare, most of the piers around Tahoe are private and fenced by a locked gate. Not this one, you can go straight into the end of the pier, and you can view the lake as if you were viewing from the middle of the lake!
Nice place for a hike. We walked to lily pond. Easy walk fairly level. Nice sign along the way referring to Olympic winter games of 1960.
Probably good to do on snowshoes with fresher snow. But today it was very easy to do on normal hiking shoes.
There are multiple signs and shortcuts.
Are you in search of the worlds largest pine cones!? Look no further.
Seriously, fun place to visit. Perfect 30 min stop with scenic views of the lake and a dash of American history.
