Donner Memorial State Park

Beautiful park by Donner Lake. Great place to go for a late afternoon stroll. And a great place to walk the dogs or take a dip in the lake. On the weekend it is filled with families camped out all day and can be crowded. Go early if you want to get in. The parking lot fills up

Review for summer camping…

Nice sites, clean bathrooms and token hot showers. The lake is chilly and was windy which limited water sports. There is a protected area where you can kayak, SUP, and rent boats.

***If you are a light sleeper (like me) bring ear plugs! The noise from HWY 80 *and* freight trains right above the campground running to/from Truckee at ALL hours of the day made it very hard to sleep. The trains are LOUD and screech at all random hours of the night.

It’s a beautiful park but I will not be camping there again.

Fun place to visit for a history buff like myself. It's crazy to see a place with such a unbelievable sequence of events. The thing is that you get to set foot in the exact location where the dinner family tried to survive the winter. It is tough to imagine this place being I. The middle of nowhere because you have a major highway and train tracks within ear distance. Having said that, it was well worth the ten bucks.

It was a memorable experience for us. The weather was very pleasant and the surrounding views were excellent. In winter I visited Truckee twice and that was another kind of attraction.

Such a beautiful and tranquil setting. Even the visitors there seem to value peace and quiet instead of the hustle and bustle around Lake Tahoe. Most of the trails are ADA and stroller friendly, great for families. The visitor center carries a wealth of information and displays on natural, geographical and emigrant history.
