Great hike but it’s pretty short taking probably around 30 minutes to summit. It gives some pretty great views and on a clear day you can see the Channel Islands in the West. Trailhead elevation 1500 ft, Summit elevation 2230 ft.
This is an ABSOLUTE MUST DO hike for any locals, and anyone visiting the area looking for a break from the awesome mountain biking also found locally. I've tagged the summit about 50 times in two years (I live right near the base) and have had some of the most incredible experiences atop this peak. See photos. BE AWARE that there are sections of this hike that are somewhat challenging and would require some "scrambling" or use of your hands to help you up. Subsequently, this makes the downclimb a little more challenging. I've seen fit couples turn around because they felt it was "sketchy," but I also have a friend who got to the summit with a baby backpack/kid carrier which surprised me (I wouldn't recommend that haha).
The trailhead is right next to the water tank (if you've made it to the dog park, you've gone too far, but feel free to park there). The trail is definite and you shouldn't have any problem staying on trail to the top.
I've gone down the backside a few times, but it takes you to the movie ranch and you have to hop a fence or two in order to make it back to the Tapo Canyon Road.
If you can time it right, get to the summit when the valley is foggy, and you'll snap some of the best photos ever...
Difficult to find the start but it's a beautiful fun trail for experienced hikers only.
