“I have to recommend this dentist for a number of reasons, but primarily bedside manner, these dentists and hygienists are empathetic and kind. My last dentist savaged me to the point of absolute embarrassment, terrified me, I was warned I would die if I didn’t get it under control. Unfortunately this scare tactic did the opposite - I stopped going to the dentist. I even stopped brushing consistently. I felt like there was no hope. My last dentist was Comfort Dental on Colfax and Forest - don’t go there, please. The doctor at the time (11 years ago) reviewed my X-rays with his assistant even using vulgarity to describe my bone loss. I was embarrassed and ashamed, not to mention in pain, crying because the novocaine wasn’t working. I left there that day with a hole drilled in a tooth that couldn’t get a root canal because it was too infected - and my experience was so horrific that I never went back. When this tooth finally escalated a few years later I was still without insurance. I turned to social media for help and a friend who works with the homeless told me about this Inner City Health. I came here and got my first of what would be four extractions at this clinic. I was not shamed. I was comforted. The next time I went in was my birthday for another extraction, and I had just been dumped. And my dentist offered me comfort. It was so stark a difference between these dentists that I cried in the chair saying thank you. Now - I have insurance. I floss and brush every night and I am coming here for extractions, deep cleanings and eventually implants. They are less expensive and kind. When I told my dentist I had not taken good care of my teeth my whole life she said “it’s never to late to start and you’re here now” which made me feel like I was doing what I needed to do, instead of so embarrassed that death was a better option. Please give them a call if you’re in pain or embarrassed because they will take care of you.”
