This park has nice mountain bike trails. A good variety of them. You must bring your own. They do not rent. They have horses here you can ride too.
What a wonderful place. One of the best state parks in southern Florida. The trails are extensive (I did the entire white trail, which is longer than the green trail). The mountain bike trails are always busy (because they are really good!). I didn’t have a mountain bike, but I could use my hybrid on the paved paths throughout the park as well as the roads, so that worked out too! Hobe mountain is here, which is a great way to start the day before it gets hot. Renting kayaks down by the river is so easy and the prices are very reasonable. If you go during the week, it’s not busy at all. They even sell craft beer by the river! Who does that?! What a great surprise that was after a full day of hiking! On my second trip, I rented a kayak and went all the way up to the end of the river trail, the entire river was peaceful, with a few people fishing, kayaking, and a pontoon boat or two taking people to the Trapper Nelson’s historical place at the end of the trail. I honestly can’t recommend a better outdoor place to go if you’re in the area.
From the Ranger Station when you first Check in, the gift shop, snack bar, captain of our River Tour, your volunteer guides up at Trapper Nelsons place, everyone we met was so very kind, helpful and the knowledge they shared with us and the 5 children we had with us was amazing. Not only did we have fun but each of us learned so very much. The wonderful volunteers at the Educational Center were amazing and we got to sit in on a snake talk Saturday afternoon and the Ranger who gave our talk/demonstration was amazing and all the kids got to participate. Thank you for making our weekend the best.
I frequent the park to enjoy the bike trails. Definitely worth the trip and appropriate for all skill levels. I haven't explored the hiking trails, waterways, or camp sites, but am eager to do so. I highly recommend visiting on a cooler day or in the early morning/evenings if you plan to explore, especially the trails. Keep some water handy and enjoy some of the most incredible landscape in south Florida.
What a great place to visit and or camp. We staying in the river campground and loved it. The facilities were new and wonderful. The bike trails are so good and kayaking in the river was just beautiful. Be sure and take a short hike up the watch tower for the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The staff was great, oh and the ocean Beach is only 10 minutes away from the camp entrance. We loved our 4 day visit
