Our little had the best experience here!
I have heard nothing but exceptional opinions about this league. Great coaches, nice people and fun for the kids. My niece, an avid ball player has volunteered time there to help out because she enjoys both the sports and the kids.
Normally, posting reviews is something I've seldom, if ever, done. However, when I see something that is blatantly false, I have to respond. For those that may look to these reviews to help with your decision, please keep to the front of your mind, some reviewers may have an axe to grind. Matt's "review" is a prime example.
First off, his comments on the fields is a flat out lie. The fields are some of the best in the county, are very well maintained and are miles from "unsafe". I would argue they are the best of any in the area. If they were as he described, his complaint wouldn't be with the league, but Pasco county, who maintains them.
Secondly, the league most certainly had leadership issues prior to this spring, but since Abby was elected president, her leadership helped the league to its most successful season in quite a long time. Growing pains? Sure, some. But with the support of a strong executive board of Will, Wendy, Jason and Al, along with other dedicated board members, they worked their tails off to help grow the league. There are outstanding coaches that have been with the league a while. They know baseball and truly care about your child. They are a great choice for you to make for your young baseballer.
In closing, I'd like to point out that Matt is referring to me as the coach who plays Daddy ball. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But for what it's worth, my son and another player who were our primary catchers were both selected to the all star team. Ironically, Matt's son had an outstanding year as a pitcher and most certainly would have been selected if he had not pulled him in the middle of the last game of the season because he listened to his coaches instead of his Dad. Embarrassed his kid in front of everyone.
Matt is the parent a league doesn't want, but unfortunately has to tolerate. He ignores the parental code of conduct by constantly "coaching" his kid during practices and games. Berates him for mistakes in front of parents and teammates. Envisions his 9 year old as his meal ticket to the bigs. But of course, lacks the courage and dedication to volunteer. I always encourage my parents to talk with me after or away from practices/games on any issue or concern. Crickets. Matter of fact, the evening before the last game that I referenced, we had, what I thought was a good conversation regarding his son, our season, and all stars. Then he pulls his kid in the middle of the game for listening to his coaches. Take his "review" with a grain of salt.
GHLL would be a great choice for you and your child.
