Let me preface this review by saying I wish I could give them a 4.5 stars rating. Coming from Baltimore, I understood that Clearwater (CW) Beach was a place for enjoyable beach life. Setting expectations, the diving here doesn’t have vibrant reefs or an schools of multicolor fish - Florida and Clearwater Aquariums are better for that locally.
I come annually to CW Beach on holiday to escape cold, wet Baltimore in March.
What you will get on site is a crew of solid divers/sailers eager to help out. Cpt TJ, DM instructors Dallas / “Llama” & Matt are all solid people I’d dive with again.
Water was 71’F (which I find chilly) so they let me borrow a 7mm wetsuit. They provided weights and tanks as well.
Dove with them yesterday and last Friday. Was able to see a Goliath grouper, schools of hundreds of fish and various crabs. Reef itself isn’t in great shape and visibility was mixed but the dive sites we hit (two wrecks and two ledges) still made for a good diving experience.
If you’re eager to learn spearfishing, “Llama” is even more eager to teach it to those who have their buoyancy well-controlled!
Looking forward to diving with them (“2Shea Charters”) next time, and perhaps learning spearfishing in doing so!
(I pulled half of a star in rating b/c being short-staffed, nobody answered my calls/texts in advance to answer my Q’s prior to the dive.)
Great time diving with these guys! Fantastic crew, great boat, and overall a great experience.
The conditions on the water were almost perfect, the Gulf was glass pretty much. Visibility was decent, about 40'. We dived on Airplane Barge and Ryan's Ledge. Saw 6 grouper between the two sights and got to see a sandbar shark at Ryan's.
All three of us look forward to diving with these guys again. Fantastic day on and under the water!
The boat, crew and experience were nice. Everything that the crew could do within their control was well taken care of. Went to 2 dive sites barge and circle of heros. Saw some nice fish at both sites.
Very pleased with Capt TJ, Dive Master Cory and Tanks-A -Lot. We dove the Airplane Barge and Circle of Hero's on 8-21-20. I arraigned everything over the phone (text) from Iowa. After calling, I immediately got a text stating they were "offshore" and started the planning for the dive. Capt TJ was very flexible with some changes we had on our part and arranged the best day and time to go out with a changing weather pattern.
Great communication on the weather and told about the one hour boat ride in 2-4 seas before we committed to the dive. Dives were good but weather cut down on visibility. Dive Master Cory (and Capt TJ) gave a great dive briefing and got us in the water quickly under heavy seas. Cory pointed out several marine creatures and talked about them after the dive. Everything was very professional and very safe.
I would definitely recommend Tanks-A-Lot when diving in the Clearwater area.
The great experience we had with Tanks-a-lot started from the easy booking process online. Easy to see which dates and times are available on their website. Received confirmation email, was able to text any questions and get a timely response. Once we arrived at the dock on dive day, communication was clear and fitting of our rented dive gear was easy and seamless. Once on the water our dive guide Chris and Capt Donny we’re both awesome helped foster a relaxing dive environment. Our dives were the Circle of Hero’s and a ledge more inland to help with vis. The only thing that cant control was the visibility but I know if they could they would. Thanks for the great experience we will be back.
