“To Mr. L Whibble- Although I cant speak for your personal experience with a fire apparatus responding to what you describe as >>>>>McDonalds, I can tell you that I've answered your type of complaint thousands of times in another area. Here is the usual scenario: Its early morning/noon/6pm and a fire apparatus is running code (lights and sirens) to a 911 call. It can be an alarm, person sick, wreck, whatever. Suddenly, dispatch calls the unit and cancels their response because it's a false alarm/they're going by car/nobody hurt in the wreck. The firefighters turn off their lights and sirens and go on with their day, which may include eating. Most (not all) firefighters are keenly aware that their vehicles are "noticeable" and draw attention. Not to mention their department name is plastered all over it. This is usually deterrent enough for most. But if you are ever concerned about these individuals doing nefarious deeds through intersections and so forth, just stop and kindly ask if they were responding to a call. Because as far as I'm aware, absolutely zero American fire departments allow or would even consider running code through traffic for training.”

“I was taking a group of 29 children to an event in Orlando today. 7/9/14 The bus I was driving broke down on I-4 exit 33 . As we were looking over the problem and seeing if there was anything we could do to fix it, one of the fire chief's (I think) pulled up and asked if we needed any help. He took me to a gas station so I could purchase water then he purchased a cooler to put the water in. He did this out of his own pocket which is very rare in this day and age. When we got back to the bus one of his trucks pulled up with ice and they stayed with us till they had arranged for the mobile home park (Lakeland Harbor) across the street to allow us to stay in the club house which had A/C.. I can not say enough about how helpful everyone was and want to give them our sincere thanks for everything they did for the kids. ”
