Wonder if there are alligator snapping turtles or regular snapping turtles
We visited the camp grounds and stayed over night in site 6. The grounds are pretty spacious and most seem to be pretty level. It was pouring rain and thundering the night that we stayed but we had no issues. Note, there is only one real outhouse type bathroom area near the camp grounds that’s closer to sites 2 and 3. It’s a very nice bathroom though with motion lighting and kept very clean. Traveling to the restroom in the middle of the night through is not for the faint of heart so be prepared.
There are a lot of water based merit badge opportunities available for the scouts including swimming, canoeing and sailing. Everyone there seems friendly and helpful. For example we were able to switch sites the day we arrived without issue since the site we were scheduled for was pretty muddy.
Anyway we enjoyed our stay and recommend visiting for a fun scouting adventure
The programs offered are a lot of fun to learn. There are always lots of people on the water for safety. Everything about small boat sailing is explained and questions invited. Watch the boom and jibe ho!
I have been an adult scout leader and volunteer at Allatoona Aquatics Base for many years. It is a great rustic place for camping and water sports/merit badges. This weekend I instructed a boy scout troop on how to prepare for canoeing at the Northern Tier Canoe Base in Ely, MN. There is also sailing and swimming opportunities. The Aquatics Base is a great resource for both scouts and scouters.
