Can't say I agree with the negative comments about AHS as my (our) experiences has been awesome. I impressed with the attention the administrators give to academics, sports and music. I also like that my child has had the opportunity to travel abroad for spring break, albeit, at an enormous cost. Nonetheless, it provides the children addition exposures to the world around us.
The teachers are professional and kind to the students and expect students to always bring their A game no matter the topic.
As a military veteran, I am grateful to the faculty and staff for preparing my student for college and life.
Though changes from cobb county may be different then when I was there my experience was good-great. Yes, I can see reasons as to some complaints of strict guidelines with cellphones as now in todays world they are essential to modern life. I could hope for a less strict rules while still having a distract free learning environment. The arts dept is wonderful from Band, marching, jazz, and ensembles. To Orchestra chorus and the theater and other performing arts and the art Department have shown this once new school can produce greatness. May i add the amazing media and film dept at our school as well as the JROTC. As for Athletics it is something to be pride of as well as having wonderful coaches that develop students on and off the feild as well to the Academic Staff. Now the school reaching a decade I am happy to be an alumni of 13 and a Buc. Stay classy Allatoona!
I have been associated with the school for seven years. My daughter graduated last year. I see some negative comments about phones being taken up when they went off in class, the school is strict on this to avoid interruptions in the class room. My daughter had hers taken up once, guess what she made sure it was off the remaining years she was there. We had to make a trip up there to retrieve the phone and made sure she understood this would be the last time it happened.
The school is proud of the sports programs and the incredible success of them. Allatoona graduates many students every year that receive Athletic Scholarships ranging from Football, Softball, Baseball, Lacrosse, Wrestling, Basketball, Tennis etc.. however I see the coaches interacting with the student athlete to ensure grades are maintained.
The dress code is strict (very strict) which is a positive, not a negative. Proper conduct is enforced in classrooms and outside of them at all events. I have seen kids marched out of plays, stadiums etc... for poor conduct.
I have a feeling some of these post most likely came from earlier years at the school as I have never heard one student complain about computers (lack there of). As for the technology, glitches happen even with the best equipment. The students will realize this once they are in the Adult world pursuing their careers.
The school is eight years old now and looks new thanks to the dedication of the leadership there. No organization or establishment is perfect, however they strive for excellence in all areas.
