This was a pleasantly surprised hike! If you like a good workout after you hike to Nanakuli Lookout - which is awesome! Then hike up to WWII bunker, that one will be a hike that goes up up up!! Beat time to hike these is winter time after it rains or during light showers as it’s much cooler out! Call and make an appt as you won’t be able to drive up and start hiking. Staff is very friendly and helpful!!
This campsite is incredible! We came for the car camping - one of the only campsites on the island that has a designated car camping spot. We were luckily allowed to show up without a reservation. The campsite is very safe (locked by a gate with a code) and the night staff gave me a phone number in case of emergencies. Being at the top of the mountain gives you an incredible view of the city, especially at night! It’s a bit colder than beach camping and quite windy but that weather was a welcome change after a hot hike. They also had excellent bathrooms facilities with WARM SHOWERS which feels like a miracle at a campground! We did not run into any other campers which was quite peaceful. Highly recommend to those who want something a bit more upscale and tucked away!
Absolutely gorgeous hiking and wonderful people caring for the grounds. Highly recommend, good for families. Two miles to view the west side. The four mile hike to the WWII bunkers gets views from diamond head to the west side (we couldn’t go because we had a little one with us).
Fun drive and hike. Trails were clearly marked and it was easy to hike at our own pace. Our party consisted of the 4 year old birthday girl, a couple children 11 and under, and a bunch of older people. The hike was pretty breezy and cool. We started at about 8 am and finished at about 10 am. There were beautiful scenic places to take photos and a small place to relax before returning on the round trip. There are temperature checks and mask requirements in the camp area, but since the hikes are reserved you can unmask on the trails. There were lots of birds singing lovely tunes along the hike. It was a good little work out and we had lots of fun. It is a private ranch, so there is a small per-person fee.
Low key, beautiful location. Lookout walk was just right for 5 and 8 year olds. Enough up and downs to make them work but they were entertained by "discovering" the right direction. Great reward in natural beauty at the end
