My family had a wonderful time on this trail on base at Schofield Barracks. As other reviews have said, it's not super difficult to get up to the rest spot with a bench, but it gets quite a bit more difficult if you continue up past that. Even so, our six-year-old made it all the way up with plenty of help from mom and dad. There are several places on the way up that have spectacular views.
I have no idea how often they close access off to support troop training activities but check this hike out when you get can (if you have base access or can go with someone who does)!
Very short, 15 mins. Very steep for the first 5 mins then levels out, views are gorgeous
Extremely short trail that is rarely accessible. If you are hoping for a difficult hike to get some exercise, this is not it. However, you do get a great view of the westside.
Kolekole Hike takes you to a wooden bench overlooking the Puu Hapapa, one of the highest mountain in Waianae Range. Awesome and beautiful views. The hike starts from the end of Trimble Road access thru Schofield Barracks. If the gate is closed please DO NOT proceed. It is approximately half mile. With "hiking trail" signs along the way. Pet and children friendly. Slippery and muddy when wet. You can park from the start of the trail. It has portable bathroom by the entrance too.
The schedule is only known one to two weeks in advance. All hikers must have access to Schofield Barracks to access the trail (i.e. either be a Department of Defense ID card holder, or have a VISITOR PASS ). When the trail is open, it is open from 5:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted. Hikers should call (808) 655-1434 if they have ...
Hiking Safety. There are two trails on Army installations, and one requires a letter of permission. Kolekole Trail: The Kolekole Trail is located at the end of Trimble Road on Schofield Barracks, is approximately a half a mile each way (the trail ends at a bench and scenic overlook), and is considered a moderate/medium trail as it is quite ...
Take Trimble Road all the way to the end. It will turn into Kolekole Road. You will go through a gate. Continue on this road (1.5 miles) until you see a dirt parking lot on your left with the trail behind it. Hours: When the trail is open, it is open from 5:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted. Hikers should call (808) 655-1434 if they ...
