(November 27, 2018, 11:13 am)The Paul Douglas Forest Preserve is my childhood home. I went here almost every day after school for years and learned the whole of it by heart. It will always remain my spiritual home and place of private pilgrimage. I hope the county will continue its natural restoration work which should help to reduce parasitic insects that have seemingly become overpopulated in the past decade, probably due to deer overpopulation. You can walk around and find deer anywhere in here, and they are nice but the ticks that accompany them are not. Also the number of skunks in the area seem to be multiplying--beware. The best time to go into the forest is after the first frost in the autumn which kills off the parasitic insects. Pack out what you pack in, and give my regards to this natural haven in the middle of concrete suburbia.
