“I was coming home from a huge road trip, going from PA to WA and back again. Before I had left PA, another mechanic had worked on something, and when they put it back together, something was out of place and was making a loud screaming scraping noise. For a lot of reasons, I postponed it, thinking it was just the existing problem I already knew about. Well, I broke down badly enough in IL to call a tow truck. I went to this Express Lube place because they were close to the hotel where I ended up. Dealing with them turned out to be a fun and educational experience, making the best out of a bad situation, as the mechanics showed me what happened - some belt and pulley was out of place, and the metal was drilling into another metal housing, wearing a bolt down to nothing. That explained the horrible noise (which had actually become less noisy the more it wore down). They patched this up enough that I could restart the truck and get home the rest of the way. I still have some engine problems to fix, but I was able to get home. They were friendly to me, communicative, and fast.”
