Parents send their children to school with the best of intentions, believing that’s what they need to become productive and happy adults. Many have qualms about how well schools are performing, but the conventional wisdom is that these issues can be resolved with more money, better teachers, more challenging curricula and/or more rigorous tests. But what if the real problem is school itself? The unfortunate fact is that one of our most cherished institutions is, by its very nature, failing our children and our society. School is a place where children are compelled to be, and where their freedom is greatly restricted — far more restricted than most adults would tolerate in their workplaces. In recent decades, we have been compelling our children to spend ever more time in this kind of setting, and there is strong evidence that this is causing serious psychological damage to many of them. Moreover, the more scientists have learned about how children naturally learn, the more we have come to realize that children learn most deeply and fully, and with greatest enthusiasm, in conditions that are almost opposite to those of school. To be honest, its a great school.”

“The facilities are beautiful in a setting where the residents can easily take a walk outside in a park-like setting, and the staff members are caring and polite. They all seem to know everyone, residents and visitors alike, and address them by name in the common areas. Any concerns we have had are addressed promptly and effectively solved by the staff. The reason for the loss of one star is the food could be better—it’s not bad, but could definitely be better. At the meals, it would be nice to try to integrate new residents into the community more easily. Overall, The Stratford is a great place for my mother—she has been there a year and a half, and she really likes it.”

“We stopped at Sahm's after our annual Santa Claus visit to Twin Lake's Golf Club. The variety and quality of their menu is fantastic. They offered an additional menu today which was simply "brunch". Brunch is served only on Saturday and Sunday during lunchtime meals. As can be expected from Sahm's the food was delicious, full portions of great food. I would recommend this location anytime.”
