Zollner Golf Course

Zollner is a beautiful golf course in a beautiful setting. At 6300 from the tips, it is a little short by championship standards, but there are a lot of memorable holes.

And the rates are quite reasonable, almost municipal course rates!

The quality and the cleverness of the course is apparent from the first tee. It requires a tee shot through a cut-back forest - you have about 50 yards of space between the trees. A stunning start to a great course. The second hole is a medium par 3, with all kinds of trouble to the RIGHT, and pot-like bunkers. And the interest keeps going from there.

There are lots of elevation changes (well, lots for Indiana). There are almost no homes anywhere to be seen (a rarity these days). #10 overlooks the Trine University athletic fields - that's the most buildings you'll see on that course.

There is a driving range, but, uh, it kinda sucks: mostly mats, the landing area is downhill, and there is an ugly, algae-filled pond on the side. This is really intended to be a place where you warm up before playing, as opposed to a destination, in and of itself. They have inexpensive baskets of balls (like 25) - the right amount for your warm up.

If you live within, say, 50 miles of this course (e.g., Fort Wayne), you NEED to plan on playing Zollner.

(5 stars? Really? Well, it's not Pebble Beach Golf Links, nor is it Pinehurst or Augusta National. But sometimes expectations are so greatly exceeded that you just gotta give out all 5 available stars. And it is 20 to 30 times less expensive than those true 5-star courses.)

We have enjoyed all our rounds at Zollner golf course. It is an interesting course layout with some unique holes. Typically in good condition. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Played this course for the first time today and was extremely impressed. Nice variety of holes with a rolling terrain. Outstanding customer service. Great value. I was in a few too many sand traps - however, they were in excellent condition. Look forward to returning to play again in the future!
