Butler State Fishing Lake and Wildlife Area

A BIG , FIX THE ROAD !! Bridge out and road closed.. Detour is treacherous and unforgiving. To one of the only places left in Kansas where you can camp for free, and even stay a little while.
Most camping starts at $12.00 and up daily. Not for me,! If i wanted to rent, I'd rent a two bedroom, get a dog, and sit infront of the TV all day.

Great place to fish for catfish and bass from the bank. One thing to note, it is called snake lake by locals. I saw 8 northern diamondback water snakes last week there. Game warden told me they were aggressive and I believe him. Otherwise my go-to place to fish.

This is a great place. There is potable water. There are several sites. Creating a little map of which sites we liked most for our RV.
Overall we really enjoyed the place. It was relatively clean. Fireplaces at many of the sites. Several places with a cover. Dock and boat ramp. Toilets are available.
There isn’t much to do other than fish (hence the name). We didn’t find any little trails. You can walk out on the man made piers kind of like walking around the lake.
It is free, so that is awesome and there were not very many people, but that may be due to this time of the year.

Went camping for a couple of nights. Had the park almost to ourselves the whole time which was great. There is no water or electricity but a water spicket down the road which we didn't try as we brought plenty of water. Area was pretty clean. No trash containers so you'll have to take your trash with you. I would recommend it since it's free. Can't beat that!
P/s: Plenty of coyotes around so if you have little dogs be aware.

I really enjoyed truck camping here one evening in March 2018 while I was passing through Kansas. Very nice dispersed camping with a few amenities. Saw wild turkeys, deer, and listened to coyotes howl at dusk. The fishing is excellent and the folks I ran into were very nice.
