I located an injured Cooper's Hawk in my yard. They provided me with clear instructions on how to capture and transport the injured hawk. My boys and I transported the hawk to Raptor Rehab where the staff was standing by. The staff and volunteers were super nice. Morgan gave my boys a tour of their facility. We'll be following up with the status of Hops (Cooper's Hawk) hopefully he can recover. Thanks for all that you do. It took one call to get the wheels in motion.

My wife excels at finding things I like to do. For my birthday weekend she really hit the nail on the head.

My favorite bird is a Red Tailed Hawk, and then the Peregrine Falcon. I think they're amazing birds and have always wanted to get close to them because I'm fascinated with them, and to be honest, my camera is a failsafe bird repellent. I get my camera (or phone these days) out and birds instinctively fly away. Without. Fail.

On my birthday morning my wife said "Ok, we're going somewhere, but I'm not going to tell you where. I know you'll love it." So I got in the car and she drove.

It's not a far drive from J-Town, but I had no idea where we were going. She turned down a side road and we were in the middle of a residential area and I was, like, "are we going to someone's house? I don't know anyone who lives in this area!"

When she pulled up in front of Raptor Rehabilitation of Kentucky all I could see was a concrete statue of an Eagle, but it didn't really give much away. For all I know it was a lawn ornament.

Once we walked a little further I head the call of a Red Tailed Hawk. And then I saw the sign and I was, like, WHOA! Wifey hit the jackpot with this one!

For about the next hour-and-a-half Dave (?) gave us a tour of the facility. I'd never been so close to a predatory bird before, let alone so many. There were 3 Red Tailed Hawks (again, my favvvvvorite), Kestrels, Peregrine Falcons, some owls, and a Bald Eagle. The types and quantities of birds changes because the facility rehabilitates them and then, ideally, releases them back to the wild.

One of the Red Tailed Hawks was entirely white due to a case of lead poisoning. She's a beautiful hawk, nonetheless.

Dave (our tour guide) is VERY knowledgeable about the birds of prey and the history of each one. You can tell he loves working with the birds (who wouldn't?) and that he has a passion for them and cares about their well being.

Before I close I want to do something that I've never done before, and that's to call out another review. There's a previous review for this place that gave it 1 star based on a phone call and never visited the facility. That's not a review, that's a rant. You cannot thoroughly write a review about a place without visiting and seeing what it's really about instead of berating a business.

The work they do at Raptor Rehabilitation of Kentucky is amazing and is an important part of sustaining the bird of prey population thriving in the Kentucky area. Their work is admirable. Their work is vital. I cannot appreciate what they do enough.

It took about 40 minutes to get the tour and info on each species of raptor. They are very knowledgeable. They got out 4 different owls for us to see up close. The whole family loved the experience.
