Went out on this vessel today to see whales. It was an amazing experience.
We went approximately 12 miles out on what can only be said as a perfect day.
Sunshine, 75 degrees and calm seas.
The vessel was very clean. The staff were pleasant. The tour was worth every penny.
Capt. Steve took every step to make sure we got every angle to view the whales and also dolphins and seals.
I hope to return before summer is over and do this again.
Our 3 hour Kennebec River cruise departed Boothbay Harbor on Friday, July 21st, on time and under mostly cloudy skies. While we did get some rain and very cold wind out on the water, it was still a very beautiful and informative tour. Our captain and narrator did a wonderful job describing our surroundings and pointing out the MANY sights that had been promised Although some fog hindered visibility a couple of times, he maneuvered as close as he safely could to the points of interest. I am giving 5 stars because everything was just perfect besides the weather, and that was no fault of Cap’n Fish’s or our crew. The boat itself was clean and comfortable, and thankfully WARM down on the inside bottom desk where we did go for a few minutes’ relief from the cold at one point. The beauty of the wildlife, the numerous lighthouses we saw, and many other sights outweighed the discomfort of the elements! I would recommend this cruise and am very glad we chose it
We really enjoyed our puffin cruise, even with the weather not being the best! The crew were all very friendly and seeing all the puffins was amazing. The captain navigated the weather as best he could and provided a smooth ride despite. We also saw some seals and porpoises on our way out and back. Our 5 year old had a blast and loved going as well. Would definitely recommend!!
We did two cruises - a 3.5 hrs whale watching cruise and a 2.5 hr puffin cruise. Both were excellent. On the whale cruise, we saw a couple humpbacks, repeatedly, as well as brief glimpses of harbor porpoises and seals. We went to a specific location in search of fin whales, but sadly no luck on those. During the puffin cruise, we saw seals, harbor porpoise, assorted sea birds, and loads of puffins that were floating, swimming, diving, and flying. The Audubon guides on the puffin cruise were especially helpful, entertaining, and informative. Binoculars and/or a good zoom lens on your camera are a must for either option, and dress warmly in layers. I recommend the trip insurance option that they offer, which allows you to reschedule; our original booking was threatened by a day of heavy rain and we were able to reschedule no questions asked.
Went on Whale watch tour, just a wonderful 3 1/2 hrs. Easy booking, good directions and guidance on parking and boarding, crew is friendly, naturalist excited and engaged, vessel clean roomy, Captain truly enjoys his job and is involved. Took another tour 2 days before with a different company and this tour was significantly better. I'll also give Cap'n Fish's credit for the once in a life time display of tail slapping we were exposed to. Just a great tour!
