Maine Maritime Museum

The Maine Maritime Museum is an amazing, unexpected pleasure and is definitely worth a stop on any trip to Bath. I'm guessing if you live in Bath, this is a must for anyone who has kids or loves boats as well. This is a nice sized campus with a main museum building with a bunch of exhibits and a bunch of other buildings which take you through the process of building a schooner. November of 2022 is free admission which was a very nice surprise, but even regular admission is worth the price (this is one of the few museums left on earth where kids up to high school age can actually get in free!) The staff is amazingly nice and knowledgeable. The location is basically perfect with a wonderful setting right on the river. This is a museum that is someplace I'll never forget and it is well worth a visit!

We had an amazing experience on the Autumn Lights Cruise! We capstoned our honeymoon with this experience. We did book ahead of time, and we’re thankful we did as it appears to have been full. Although we did not partake, there were light snacks and refreshments (including coffee) available for purchase.

The crew were kind, friendly, and informative. They shared local history, landmarks (of course focusing on the river lighthouses), and wildlife. We feel very fortunate that we were able to see 2 eagles, countless seals, and many other waterfowl! The seals were so cute popping up and checking out what us tourists were doing! The fog rolled in and we were worried it would ruin our views but actually cast a really cool vantage point over the river!

This hopefully a helpful tip - our cruise docked and we left the museum around 5:45 so we just recommend accounting for a little leeway around the 5:30 end of cruise if you’re making dinner reservations. We didn’t have dinner booked until 7:20 so we weren’t in a rush!

We talked about doing another tour with them on subsequent trips to Maine! Thank you so much!

Seriously dude, this is an amazing stop!
Was last minute decision. Well, this evidently is the last original ship building yards from the 1800's. Most of the original buildings are still here! I included a diorama of what it looked like back then. We only had an hour to tour, I would plan for 2 hours... then take a cruise included in the admission.

Great historical expedition.

This was an amazing museum to see the history and documentation on Shipbuilding in Maine. Many model ships, lighthouse exhibit, engine works, plus you have all the original buildings that were used to plan, fabricate, and build ships. It was a real eye opener for lobster fishing is a dedicated building. As well as the had a remarkable painters exhibit, Arthur Beaumont. His watercolors are breathtaking. Allow plenty of time to explore as there is much to see and walk too. Strollers would be fine outdoors with ease. Wheelchairs if not motorized may have some difficulties in areas.

Excellent museum. Very informative, and situated right on the river. Some of exhibits on shipbuilding are outside so dress appropriately. In the parking lot there is a little building that has a film about Bath Iron Works. It's very cool and a must see.
