(January 26, 2019, 11:30 am)Love the atmosphere of this place and our service was good. We sat in the lounge for drinks and apps. My wife reported the bisque was amazing. I had clam chowder which was good but was disappointed with the fig and prosciutto and shrimp cocktail. The prosciutto seemed hard to me and I could hold a piece of it flat out like a piece of cardboard. I also seemed flavorless. The shrimp though it was generous in portion 5 giant shrimp, some of the largest I've ever had did not have food texture or flavor. I wasn't in the mood to send it back or talk to anyone. I'm sure they would have made sure I was happy before I left which is why I'm giving 4 stars rather than 3. I should have given them a chance to make it right.
(November 25, 2018, 8:29 am)We eat at Bancroft, Burlington regularly and are never disappointed. Food and service is consistently excellent. Recently had Thanksgiving dinner there in a small private dining space and this was a very positive experience. Attentive waitstaff and very good offerings and food quality. The only "bad" thing we have to say about Bancroft is the desserts. They're just not up to par with the quality of the rest of the food and are actually sometimes horrible. We've tried the desserts over the years and this is always the case. On Thanksgiving the desserts were either bland and rubbery (pumpkin cheesecake), hard as a rock and had a chemical aftertaste (chocolate tart). Bancroft management needs to address this dessert issue so that the last impression one leaves with is positive. Hire an amazing pastry chef who'll change things up.
