So, I am an ex alumni and I can give you the most accurate depiction of the atmosphere at Northeast, growth, and recommendations. First and foremost the school is doing its best to improve when it depends on other school districts for funds in both the trade and academic side. The school is now offering AP classes for the year of 2017 which is a great start because who would have heard of AP classes at a vocational technical high school. A trade and AP credits, I wish I had that when I went. Second, you get what you put in, if you consider that this school didn't prepare you for the real world, I am sorry but you should have paid a lot more attention in your classes because the one thing this school does well is to prepare you to work in the real world. I learned how to write checks, figure out interest rates for credit cards, mortgage and more, but hey I applied myself and I attended a top #40 university in the U.S National Rankings. If you decided to go here to breeze through your high school academic career then so be it, nobody will and nobody should hold your hand anymore. The school offers a lot of clubs and sports and I played 3 sports, and was a part of around 4 clubs. Skills U.S.A is a national competition in where a student that really wants to apply themselves can win lots of money or be paid for their future studies in their field. I have read a lot of these comments and all I see are comments from students that didn't APPLY THEMSELVES, because the opportunities were there. 8/10 of all of my close friends went to college for their pharmaceutical degree, engineering degrees, nursing, MD, JD, BA, and more, but guess what some of them even played sports at the college level too. You know what we all had in common, we all cared about our futures and pushed ourselves. Lastly, I see the whole ID thing being brought up, and that's politics learn to realize that at least if something were to happen they could at least say they had a plan in place unlike many schools in the area. My story is not the story of all the students here, but my advice is to push your kids into the honors programs as freshman and by the time they graduate, you'll be able to see the huge difference. The only reason this school doesn't get a 5 star rating is because the building is super outdated. That is not their fault though they pushed for a state funded renovation and the state representatives shut it down, so who's fault is that? A lot of things happen behind the scene, but go to a local district and tell me they don't have a hierarchy in place. My local district had the same superintendent for 25 years until he finally retired. People wanted change in my district too, but its not as easy as people think it is especially in a world with so much red tape. Overall i enjoyed my experience here and with a JD, and PHD I can't complain now. I do miss it though.
I just transferred out of that school. I'm now a whittier tech student. Northeast was a pretty decent school. The teachers and kids were very nice. I'm no longer a knight I'm officially a wildcat.
Love working with the students here at Northeast Metro Tech. So many talented young people who are willing to learn and do creative work. The shop experience is top notch. Nothing is more rewarding when you see teenagers engaged in creative problem solving and produce such excellent work. Any student, no matter what their attitude, can find a way to contribute to a successful education here at Northeast Metro Tech. KTSA
