I always love coming here. Monroe doesn't have a whole lot to offer for outdoor fun and getting in touch with nature. It's a nice place to relax and clear your head. Lake Erie isn't the exactly the "greatest" of the Great Lakes, but I have always loved living near a large body of freshwater. I will be back again soon :)
The park is well maintained. The sites are mostly level and paved. There is good spacing around the sites and the parking pads are at an angle to the road making it very easy to back in. There are very few trees so you won't get any shade or protection from the wind.
The park is directly next to the beach and trails connect to the day use section of the park and the rest of the trail system. The park is on the western shore of Lake Erie so the waves are minimal unless the wind is out of the East.
Unlike many state parks there are some full hookup and 50 amp sites. Even on a hot day at pretty full occupancy there were no power issues.
My family and I love going to Sterling State park. Fun for all ages. Nice beach, with clean public restrooms. Kids small park with toys and benches. Grills and picnic tables available. Several different walking trails. A boat launch and more.
Love this camp ground and the view of sunrises when we get a site near the water. Nice beach but it could use a little more help to be kept up. Showers and restrooms are clean. It's got a good atmosphere and not to loud or rowdy, good for families. It would be nice if they hosted an activity once a day during the summer or in the evening.
