Great home improvement program! From beginning to end, Dwight & everyone in the county office & all the contractors were very professional & nice!
Met with pre-purchase housing counselor, Melissa M., today and she was terrific! I am in the first time home buyer planning stages and, while I feel my path is solid, there is still so much I don't know. Melissa offered a wealth of starter info and direction. I got some solid inside nuggets related to the home buying process and gleaned planning strategy approaches I would not have gleaned from general online research.
The pre-purchase counseling process starts with a phone chat and setting an appointment. I received a packet of forms in the mail to fill out and a request of standard docs to bring with me (income verification and such). The appointment runs at least 90 minutes. The forms get reviewed and Melissa pulls an official credit report, which she also reviews with you and provides recommendations on. She did inform me that the Credit Karma credit score number I have been following is not a super official number. But what a pleasant surprise to see that my score was actually 30+ points HIGHER on the report she ran! I can actually actively pursue purchasing a home now if I wanted to, which was pretty cool to know.
At the end of the session, you get some practical 'homework' to do and a follow-up via phone within 30-45 or so days. Melissa also makes herself available to any questions or concerns in the meanwhile. Since my timeline is at least 2 years out at the moment due to certain personal aspects I want to have in order, my decision to connect with this agency now was not premature in the least. It confirmed the things I have been doing right and what I should focus working on next to continue on a progressive path to home ownership. They also offer foreclosure issues guidance here and ways to improve your home with dedicated government programs.
In all, what a great resource to be able to take advantage of!
Very Nice People! I hope it all works out in the end.
