This preserve has maintained trails that traverse the rolling property. The trails wind through an oak forest, around a seasonal pond and up to a hill with a view.
Today was our first time hiking these trails through the Sharon shorthills. The undulating terrain and woods were visually interesting at all times, and I couldn't wait to see what was beyond thr next hilltop or around the next bend. The whole hike was like that. We accidentally spooked a couple of cranes that were in a marsh, and their call was deafening and primal as it echoed through the ravines.
This was the first time we hiked in this preserve but we will definitely return. It's about a half an hour from Ann Arbor with a pretty drive through farmland and by Pleasant Lake. The preserve is very hilly with several trails through the woods. The trails were mostly snow covered but not icy today. At several places there were lovely vistas with views of the valley and opposite hillsides.
Great short hike. Clean and beautiful area
This is a really neat place, nice trail, and normally well maintained. Good place to relax and hike for a couple of hours and look at wild flowers, tree, and the animal life. I wish they had a map you could download, and that Washtenaw Country would grade the road once in a while. A lot of pot holes. Thanks goes to the family that donated the land.
