Had a fantastic lunch here! My first time here. I ordered the street tacos and they were absolutely fantastic! My friend ordered the hard shell beef tacos and to our surprise they were actually in a fried flour shell that was excellent! The black bean salsa was very good and the side of lime rice was ok, a little bland. Our service was great and it was very busy in there. Nicely decorated and a fun atmosphere. Would definitely go back. Also they have a huge menu. You can have Mexican, Italian, American etc. etc. I saw many items I'd like to go back and try.
When we walked in we were seated immediately, and very soon after it began to get busy inside. The Sprite had the correct mix and the machine was well cleaned, allowing the drink to have a smooth crisp taste. They were out of Jalapeno Poppers, so we ordered the Wisconsin Cheese Curds. I have had fried curds at several places, but these are by far the best I've ever had, and its portion size was just as perfect. We ordered the Steak sandwich medium with tater tots, and the French Dip Sandwich with fries. Everything we ordered arrived at our table hot, fresh, and properly seasoned. For those who need salt or pepper, they are already on the table as well as napkins in the form of a paper towel roll on a paper towel stand. Our server was absolutely wonderful, and as attentive as possible given the amount of tables she was working. I am giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 only because I see 4 as great, 5 exceptional. If after a few more return trips I do not see delineation, I will update to a 5. We definitely play to return to try more of their fare!
Awesome local restaurant, and fantastic staff who served us with a smile and no problems with the fact that we came in 30 minutes before the kitchen closed. We really appreciate it being able to get such tasty food late at night!
We ordered off of the seasonal menu. The jambalaya was particularly good, with great flavor. The burger was good; the fries were undercooked, at least on the day we were there. Ambiance was a very typical sports bar, so something like jambalaya was a really nice surprise for me, and while the burger meal kind of fell flat that day, service was good, and I'd be willing to try this place again.
Trail Stop Tavern was a big surprise when my buddy and I went there on kinda a whim (we were both driving in that area) on a sleepy Sunday night. Both of us needed a break after a long weekend, and also needed just a casual, laid-back kind of relaxing place on this night.
Trail Stop was a perfect choice for this! It was a Tuesday night, and we expected the place to be deserted, wow were we surprised! The inside bar/restaurant was jammed, and the country music was blasting. It had a great and relaxing "vibe", though "maybe" the country music might have been a "bit" too loud for my tastes (not much of a country western guy, right?).
The menu was simple bar fare, and the beer n(served in enormous 20 oz sizes) was cold and reasonably priced. We were absolutely shocked to discover that Trail Stop is open till 1 am on some nights, and even 2 am on other nights (check their schedule first). WOW, we've gotten so used to bars closing at 9 PM or maybe 10 PM during the COVID times, but not at Trail Stop. No masks were seen in the entire establishment.
We had two recommended apps with our beers - the Wisconsin deep fried cheese curds served with a wonderful jelly, and the deep fried pickles. The pickles were FANTASTIC, and came crunchy and salty and perfect with the beers. Same for the curds - golden brown and perfectly fried. No calories in either of them, too! haha, yeah right, JUST kidding.
The interior is casual, with a large center bar, and high tops all around. The ceiling was a surprise to me too - it was an old tin ceiling tiles. Really fun interior. But again, casual!
Our server and the hostess were very attentive, and helpful to us noobies. Their recommendations were spot on perfect. The beer selection is a bit "simple" for our old-age tastes, we would like to have seen a decent porter and a couple more tap lines for a few more options, but meh, the beer was cold, and that was good enough for me.
High marks for the casual atmosphere, easy access to Highway 3 in Eagan, large parking lot, simple but decent menu, and great staff. We'll be back to Trail Stop! Especially if they turn down the Willie Nelson!
