These woods are snowshoe heaven! Great trails. Rolling hills. Lakes and ponds. With only a few steps it feels like you’re entering into a world far from the hustle of the city. Easy to access. I’ve never found it crowded. Convenient parking in the Lutheran Church lot at the trailhead.
This was such a diverse hike! I am pleased to say that I saw my first owl here as a super amateur birder. A Barred Owl. Highly recommend the park!
I absolutely love this place. So many different paths to take, mushrooms to see and a nice fairy vibe. Please be aware most of these trials are not paved- it’s the whole point of these trails—-To be out in nature and go on an adventure. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Went for a hour hike. Early spring the ground had already froze and thawed a couple times. Luckily it was firm on this visit. Trail markers are ok. I use Alltrails app. To navigate. (Works excellent).
A wonderful place to see the Big Woods biome and appreciate some peace and quiet in the city. Parking was very accessible (the trailhead is in the church parking lot) and there are some benches right out front. Unfortunately, there is a bit of graffiti on some signs throughout the area.
PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG. They are not allowed because the trails are shared for horseback riding. It can also be very muddy especially in spring, and there are no facilities to clean up dirty pups.
If you struggle to find your way around in the woods (like some people in the reviews) take a pic of the map at the beginning of the trail, or use a map app if you get lost... The area is not that big, don't call the cops unless you truly need help.
There is a group called The Friends of Wolsfeld Woods who provide park maintenance and schedule area events. Consider volunteering.
