Beautiful! Great place for birding and being one with nature. Trails are well maintained. Multiple hiking trail options provides serious and novice hikers with opportunities. Family friendly hikes and a beautiful 7.5 mile wilderness drive. Worth the stop every time! They also have a clean and informative visitor center.
Never a dull moment driving the 7 mile Wildlife Loop. My favorite time to visit is during May/June to view the beautiful lupines.
The majority of the reserve is (understandably) closed during spring and summer, but they do have a 7 mile driveable loop dedicated to car tours.
If you love nature, you'll love it here. We spotted, Blue winged teal, trumpeter swans, sandhill cranes, eagles, painted turtle, pelican, and great blue herons. There is a 7 mile loop that you travel by vehicle or bike.
This is a fantastic place for all nature lovers, especially those with limited mobility. There's lots to see on the wildlife loop. The short trails are also nice for an easygoing walk (I prefer the Blue Hill trail to see warblers!) One of the best places to see sandhill cranes in MN.
