The scandia butik inside the gammelgarden is very nice and well stocked with Scandinavian goods. If you're able, visit when all of the buildings are open. They give a great appreciation for the life of the settlers in this area.
Gammelgarden is a beautiful place to visit. Tours are well worth the small fee. They have a really nice gift shop with wonderful Swedish gifts, books, trim and other items.
Best museum I've visited in a while. The whole area is beautiful and full of great culture. Scandia and the surrounding area embody a genuine appreciation for Swedish-American culture, and history. The greeter was very friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the area and swedish immigration to the area.
Little gem of Minnesota history! Free entry if you choose to do a self-guided tour. We took the guided tour and it was well worth it. Learned a lot about the settlement of Minnesota by Swedish immigrants and the tour guide Jim was absolutely wonderful with our 3 year old!
Visited on a Sunday just after noon. Took the tour ($7) which was well worth it. Great tour guide and lots of amazing old buildings and artifacts. Also there's a museum in the upper floor of the visitor center that's free to visit. Right next door is a cemetery with graves dating back to the mid 19th century. All in all, a great way to spend an afternoon. Visitors center has a very nice gift shop as well!
