This is one of our favorite, free attractions around eastern Kansas City metro area. Peaceful, serene and a great chance to commune with wildlife while still being close to everything the city has to offer.
We really enjoyed our experience interacting and feeding Elliott the Elk and the local bison. The animals appeared quite tame and loved the treats. And there's a large area with open space, spruces. and picnic tables just across the parking lot to run, eat, discover, play. Will be coming back! We also hiked the trail just "behind" the animal enclosure and it was GORGEOUS. Easy enough for children who are sure of their step, and long enough to really enjoy it, with plenty of stoos along the way to enjoy the scenery
Its a gamble on weather or not you will get to see the bison or elk up close. They are in a huge fence with plenty of room to roam .As long as you are prepared to possibly not see an animal up close you won't be disappointed and may be pleasantly surprised if they are near the fence. You are allowed to bring carrots and apples to feed the animals. I have taken an older teen, a tween and my mother (in her 60's) there and everyone has loved it. Just FYI though, this is a very simple set up. Just bison and elk behind a fence- There are no formal restrooms (a port a potty only), no refreshments, attendants etc.
