Been here for 8 years now which I suppose is long enough to give this opinion:
Truck driving is not as good a job as it used to be. The Independence that was the Hallmark of and most attractive feature of the job is gone thanks to the new technology and new regulations. Ever increasing traffic, poorly maintained infrastructure, lack of available parking, unavailability of decent food, an industry-wide pay system that expects hours of free work from you every week, and a dozen other deteriorating issues make this once enjoyable and fulfilling career a high stress, unrewarding, slog.
FCC has a driver-centric approach to the business that does help to mitigate some of the downside to being a truck driver today.
The pay is above average, the equipment is newer and well maintained, most of the freight is drop and hook, home time is dependable thanks to an operations staff that honestly will bend over backwards to take care of you.
Other company staff; safety, shop personnel, payroll, Etc are all friendly and helpful. Company Executives up to and including the president have an open door policy and are generally willing to address your concerns.
There are a few downsides, because no company is perfect.
Drivers do not get holiday pay.
Occasionally you are asked to do shuttle work which is paid by the hour, but at only $18 per hour which is a massive pay cut from driving down the road. To be fair, this is not a frequent issue, but may happen four or five times a year.
Detention time is always paid which is a huge plus compared to many companies, but it is only $18 per hour.
Overall, if you are going to drive a truck this is a very good place to do it.
Great company! Shop runs quickly and efficiently. They really care about the employee and their family. We have a great driver manager and so happy to have finally found our trucking home.
Very friendly and professional. They definitely have that family feeling atmosphere. I believe I'm going to enjoy driving for FCC. I will check back in a few months and give you a full review.
