Took my 3 grandsons for a weekend quick trip. They loved the caboose. Everything was clean and the staff were so nice. So many spots to choose from, and the beach was clean. We will definitely go back.
This is a great place to go camping, there are plenty of camping spots, and a lot of them by the water, during the main time of the year there are showers and the showers have handicap showers, there are places for the kids to play, and they have different levels of camping from primitive to camper hook up. The prices range from $15-$30 a night.
This is a lovely park for camping and the caboose camper cabins they offer are a fun option. My mistake was to come for hiking - the customer service person told me the trails aren’t marked on the map they give out and he didn’t seem to know for sure if there are any or where I could find them. He did tell me to watch out for hunters with bows. The park is fairly small, we didn’t find any actual trails, I would say it is best for family camping since they do offer many different options for that (cabooses, regular cabins, multiple spaces for RVs and tents). There is a small lake with a beach that’s great for swimming, and you can also swim in the river (although the lake is safer).
The cabooses should be reserved online first since they are pretty booked up through the summer. Minimum stay is two nights, so they can’t be booked just for an overnight stay.
Overall the park is clean, seems safe, and the nature is pretty. We saw lots of different kinds of birds, including a goose nesting right by the camping area.
We just went fishing with the kids for the afternoon. Had a lot of fun. And there was a lot to go to. We caught fish and frogs and saw tons of turtles. The people we got the annual permit from were awesome and helpful. And he was very nice and told us where we could catch some fish. The bathroom at the main place was nice and clean. There was hardly anyone there when we went though. It was a Tuesday afternoon.
We've gone camping here a few times and had a fantastic experience every time!
Plenty of fish, good swimming spots and places to canoe too.
Easy in and out, friendly people and not a far drive from Omaha. I do recommend bringing bug spray and you're own fire wood.
