“Although I'm not a customer of Scorpio,( My employer is) I could not resist a chance to say something about it. I worked there quite a few years and it is a big part of my life. I walked into Scorpio music in June of 1973 at what I believe was it's second location in Philadelphia. I got hired on the spot. I picked orders, shipped orders, swept floors and did basically anything that was asked of me. I didn't like the warehouse manager ( he was a bit full of himself) but the owner of the company, a guy not too much older than me, seemed to like me. A lot of people didn't like him but we got along quite well. I became kind of like a gofer for him and I didn't care. I was only about 20 years old and I got a kick out of some the things he had me do. I began to learn about the the record business and that was why I liked this job. I helped the company move to it's new location in Croydon PA. There the company prospered into a major player in the industry. After I worked at that location, I left to help my mother in her restaurant in Atlantic City. This type of business was not for me. It was just a family thing. I worked for another smaller wholesaler for a little while but it was nothing like Scorpio. I came back in 1979 where I worked in an office position. I left again in 1982 to open my own business. That is another story. Scorpio continues to be a major force in the business under the leadership of two of the best record guys that I know. They represent the way things were in the business and continue to run it in that manner.I will always look at my years at Scorpio with great fondness.”
